First RSL function at new Roos Club

About 50 veterans, their families and supporters gathered at The Roos Club on Sunday for the first official Victor Harbor RSL function at the new premises.

The club provided a two-course lunch, and musical entertainment was provided by member and supporter Dean Bird.

The luncheon was held in lieu of the usual pre-ANZAC march in Victor Harbor.

Sub-branch vice president Kent Johncock and president Dave Miller outlined the history of the new combined clubroom facility with Victor Harbor Football Club.

Mr Miller encouraged anyone in attendance who wasn’t a member to consider taking out membership of either the RSL or the football club.  You don’t have to have served in the armed forces to be a member of the RSL as associate members are also welcome at a cost of $40 per year.

He paid tribute to several associate members – Peter Francis, Rod McCallum and Martin Fisher – who had been active members of the RSL committee.

The intention is to have the RSL clubrooms open each Wednesday afternoon from 1-4pm and Fridays from 4.30pm, as well as activities on a Sunday.
